CHOLERA COMBATANTS
Leading The World in the Fight Against Cholera
Our disease research and prevention organisation aims to fight against cholera by extending knowledge of the disease, causes, symptoms treatment and prevention.

WHAT WE DO
Knowledge is Power
Cholera Combatants is a source of awareness for cholera. Here you can better understand what cholera is, ways to identify it, what to do if someone close to you has the disease, and ways to prevent yourself from receiving it.
We also include a fundraiser in case you would like to donate. This money will be used to improve the living and sanitary conditions of those who are susceptible to cholera. Your contribution could help prevent over 4 million potential cases of cholera each year.
SYMPTOMS
Recognition is the First Step to Eradication
Cholera is the result of ingesting the water-borne bacterium Vibro Cholerae. This bacteria contaminates food and water.
Symptoms include: severe dehydration, watery diarrhea, a rapid heart-rate, a dry mouth, lethargy, low blood pressure, vomiting and wrinkled skin.

TREATMENT
Fighting the Disease
It is imperative that a cholera patient is seen by a medical expert that is qualified to distribute antibiotics. More importantly, the patient must be given clean and purified water. Intravenous hydration is the primary treatment for cholera. Tetracycline has been proven to be effective against cholera.

PREVENTION
Stopping a Battle That Doesn't Need to be Fought
A cholera vaccine exists which provides 85% protection against the disease for the first 6 months. This needs to be constantly renewed as the level of protection decreases to less than 50% after 2 years.
The driving factor that allows cholera to be as potent as it is is the lack of sanitation and clean water. The disease feeds off of bacteria that contaminate food and water which ultimately are ingested into our bodies.

ENDING CHOLERA: A ROADMAP TO 2030
Spread Awareness
An initiative was started by GTFCC partners in October to hopefully decrease cholera deaths by 90%. The roadmap focuses on 3 strategic axes:
1. Early detection and quick response
2. A targeted multi-sectoral approach to prevent recurrence
3. An effective mechanism of coordination for technical support
